Rey lets a quiet sob at the kindness in Padmé's voice, and tells herself to believe it. She has the blood of the ruler of the Sith in her veins, but she doesn't have to be like him. She chooses her destiny. She chose and she ended him, and all of the Sith along with him.
Padmé's arm goes around her and Rey turns into the embrace, lowering her forehead to Padmé's shoulder for a moment. Suddenly, she feels guilty for all the information that she's keeping from Padmé, even if she does know that it's the right thing to do.
"It was Palpatine," Rey tells her, because she has to tell her something, and this feels the safest. "He sat on that throne."
